The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary doctor and obtain referrals to organizations that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can obtain drug and alcohol treatment services in Prescott. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various rehabilitation services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detoxification are restricted to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detoxification will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members will be permitted to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually permitted. In additional to this, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed other treatment services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
