There is also a type of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, that is a drug that reverses the effects of opiates. Someone taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and costs about $450 a month. Naltrexone is an additional med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opiate. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from experience high feelings from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
