Treatment clients referred from the court for drug or alcohol rehabilitation are typically referred because they are being granted a chance to try their hand at rehab instead of jail time, other charges, fines, etc. While this is more prevalent with first time offenders, it can happen at any time including while someone is being held in jail. There are different types of rehab programs that criminal justice clients may be referred to, and this all depends on what is local to Miranda and the type of drug or alcohol they'll need treatment for.
There are recovery programs that work exclusively with the criminal justice court system to administer to this explicit group of clientele, and are usually publicly-funded or are offered at little or no cost to the client. There are also private addiction rehab centers that might be approved by the court if there is a specific type of rehab that the person needs or prefers that a different facility can't fulfill. The defendant's legal representation can request such alternatives to the judge for approval. There are even addiction recovery facilities that operate out of the jails themselves, in which case clients are sometimes in a better position for reduced sentences or other benefits when engaging in drug rehabilitation services while serving their time for a drug related offense or a DUI/DWI.
