American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to be in need to recovery services for drug and alcohol abuse and addiction. Conversely, American Indians and Alaska Natives are more likely to seek treatment on their own will more than other racial/ethnic groups. Almost 50% of American Indian and Alaska Native addiction treatment admissions arrive to treatment as criminal justice clients, meaning they have very likely accepted a diversion option to receive treatment instead of jail time. So therefore, there is a definite need for different types of treatment programs to cover all of the various needs of this client demographic, including addiction rehabilitation programs in native languages.
One of the barriers that American Indian and Alaska Natives in Ravendale face is access to comprehensive and effective rehab programs, particularly those who reside in secluded locations. Facilities offering substance abuse treatment services in rural areas commonly are not capable of offering support designed to meet the needs and demands of this unique demographic including substance abuse rehabilitation services in their language.
