The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary care physician and obtain referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can receive drug and alcohol treatment services in Norwood. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detox are limited to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military members will be permitted to stay in rehab.
