Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centers - Bristol, CT.

One of the outpatient rehab alternatives for individuals in Bristol who are struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Some facilities and doctors are authorized to dispense certain meds to opioid addicted clients, many that are opioids themselves and are addictive. In low enough doses the client does not feel high and also does not experience intense cravings and is not experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first med used for this sole purpose, but there are a few more choices currently to choose from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an out-patient medical center licensed to dispense the drug, which is taken daily as a pill or liquid. The cost of the med is about under $200 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based med, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But different from Methadone that is only be given in well-regulated medical centers, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is around three hundred dollars a month for the generic version of the medication. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, that is a drug which reverses the effects of opioids. Someone taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and costs about $450 a month. Naltrexone is an additional medication used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications aforementioned it is an opioid blocker and is not an opiate. A person has the choice to take this medication as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents a person from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
