The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary care physician and obtain referrals to organizations that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can obtain drug and alcohol treatment services in Derby. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various rehab services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detox are restricted to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers are allowed to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually permitted. Additionally, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other primary rehabilitation services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
