The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary care physician and get referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can obtain drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Madison. This encompasses detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other rehabilitation services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are limited to 7 days.
