The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can select a primary doctor and get referrals to organizations that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can acquire drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Cocoa. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other rehab services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detoxification are limited to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members are permitted to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is typically accepted. In additional to this, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed other primary treatment services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
