The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and get referrals to health care services that provide specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, members of the military can obtain substance abuse treatment services in Live Oak. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other substance abuse recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are restricted to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members will be permitted to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is typically allowed. Additionally, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which occur on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other primary rehabilitation services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
