The armed forces currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and obtain referrals to health care services that provide specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, military members can obtain drug and alcohol treatment services in New Port Richey. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other rehabilitation services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some restrictions. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are restricted to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members are allowed to stay in treatment.
