The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary doctor and obtain referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can obtain drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Port St. Lucie. This encompasses detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other treatment services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are limited to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members are allowed to remain in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is typically allowed. Additionally, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which occur on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished prior treatment services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
