The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can pick a primary doctor and get referrals to organizations that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can receive drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Tennga. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are restricted to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers are permitted to remain in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually accepted. Additionally, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which take place on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed prior treatment services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
