The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and get referrals to health care services that provide specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, military members can receive drug and alcohol treatment services in Tifton. This encompasses individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other treatment services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detox are limited to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers are allowed to remain in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is typically permitted. Additionally, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other rehabilitation services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
