The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can pick a primary care physician and obtain referrals to health care services that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can receive substance abuse treatment services in Wahiawa. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various treatment services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detox are restricted to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers are allowed to stay in rehab.
