The armed forces currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can select a primary care physician and obtain referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can receive drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Fredericksburg. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various rehabilitation services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are limited to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members will be permitted to remain in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually allowed. In additional to this, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which take place on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other primary treatment services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
