Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Harpers Ferry, IA.

One of the outpatient rehabilitation alternatives for people in Harpers Ferry who are struggling with opioid dependence and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are certified to give certain meds to opioid dependent people, many of which are opioids themselves and are addictive. In low amounts however, the user does not experience being high but also doesn't have severe cravings and is not experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication tried for this purpose, but there are other choices currently to select from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an out-patient medical center licensed to dispense the drug, that is taken daily in liquid or pill form. The price of the med is about $150 a month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid-based drug, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But different from Methadone that is only be given in well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is about three hundred dollars monthly for the generic version of the medication. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a drug that blocks the effects of opioids. A person taking this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and is priced about $450 per month. Naltrexone is an additional medication taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications aforementioned it is an opiate blocker and is not an opiate. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents a person from getting high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
