Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs - Jamaica, IA.

Vivitrol is a med used to help prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is administered specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the drug Naltrexone, that is available via a monthly injection. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone is adminstered Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would normally be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when someone takes a drink of alcohol or takes opioids they essentially cannot get drunk or high.

There are certain safety measures that need to be taken before an individual is administered Vivitrol. Firstly, someone who plans to begin Vivitrol needs to have abstained from opioids for a minimum of 7-10 days. This is including people who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given drugs such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been taking Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for a minimum of seven days in order to start Vivitrol.

These medications must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Jamaica that also offers individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Talk with your therapist or doctor about how pharmacological tools can help you build the drug and alcohol free life you want.
