Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers - Kiron, IA.

One of the outpatient treatment options for clients in Kiron who are struggling with opioid dependence and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some clinics and doctors are certified to administer certain medications to opioid dependent individuals, many that are opioid-based themselves and are addictive. In low amounts however, the individual does not experience high feelings and also doesn't experience severe cravings and isn't experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication tried for this purpose, but there are alternative choices currently to select from.

Methadone is an opioid and is meant to be taken at an out-patient medical center licensed to dispense the med, that is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is about $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based med, and is a pill often taken every other day. But different from Methadone which can only be administered in well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is around three hundred dollars monthly for the generic version of the drug. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, which is a drug which blocks the effects of opioids. A person consuming this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken every day, and is priced around $450 a month. Naltrexone is an additional medication taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it is an opioid blocker and is not an opiate. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
