Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Programs - Melrose, IA.

One of the out-patient rehabilitation alternatives for clients in Melrose who are struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed centers and doctors are certified to give certain meds to opioid addicted people, many of which are opioids also and are addictive. With low enough doses however, the individual doesn't experience being high but also doesn't have intense cravings and is not experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first med administered for this reason, but there are a few more choices currently to pick from.

Methadone is an opioid and is meant to be taken at an out-patient medical center certified to administer the drug, that is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is about $150 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid-based drug, and is in pill form often taken one day on, one day off. But different from Methadone which can only be given in well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is around three hundred dollars a month for the generic version of the medication. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, that is a drug which reverses the effects of opioids. Someone taking this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken on a daily basis, and is priced about $450 /month. Naltrexone is another medication taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opiate. A person has the choice to take this drug as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents a person from experience high feelings from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
