Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Pacific Junction, IA.

Vivitrol is a med used to help prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended-release type of the med Naltrexone, which one can get through a monthly injection. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual is adminstered Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would normally be triggered by opioids or alcohol, so when someone drinks alcohol or takes opioids they basically can't get high or drunk.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before someone is administered Vivitrol. Firstly, a client who plans to start Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for at least 7-10 days. This is including clients who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given meds like Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin addict or a person who has been on Methadone for several years, abrupt cessation is brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for at least seven days if they want to begin taking Vivitrol.

These medications must be used as part of an addiction treatment program in Pacific Junction that also includes medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk with your therapist or Dr. about how pharmacological aids can help you live the drug-free life you want.
