Medicare consists of different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering certain forms of care.

Part A (Insurance for Hospital Stays) - Medicare Part A covers inpatient drug and alcohol treatment, and up to 60 days in rehab without a co-pay but individuals will have to pay a deductible. Medicare only pays for a total of 190 days of inpatient care, as in during the person's lifetime.

It also covers professional interventions.

Part C (Medicare-approved Private Insurance) Medicare Part D is an option for individuals who want supplemental coverage aside from what the other parts of Medicare have to offer. Individuals who have Part C can have more options available to them, but out-of-pocket costs and coverage is different and may be more expensive.

Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D covers substance abuse related medications. Including medications used for withdrawal symptoms during detoxification as well as those used for maintenance therapy such as methadone or buprenorphine.
