The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and get referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can obtain substance abuse rehabilitation services in Sioux City. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detox are restricted to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers will be permitted to remain in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually accepted.
