Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Sperry, IA.

One of the outpatient rehab alternatives for clients in Sperry struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed facilities and doctors are authorized to dispense certain meds to opioid dependent clients, many that are opioids also and are addictive. In low amounts however, the client doesn't feel high but also doesn't experience intense cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug used for this sole purpose, but there are other choices currently to choose from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an outpatient clinic licensed to dispense the med, which is taken daily as a pill or liquid. The cost of the med is around $150 a month. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based drug, and is a pill often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone that can only be dispensed in highly well-regulated medical centers, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is around three hundred dollars a month for the generic version of the medication. There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, that is a med which blocks the effects of opiates. A person taking this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and costs around $450 monthly. Naltrexone is an additional drug used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 per month.
