One of the outpatient treatment alternatives for people in West Point struggling with opioid dependence and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is approximately three hundred dollars a month for the generic version of the drug. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a med that reverses the effects of opiates. A person taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and costs around $450 a month. Naltrexone is another med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it is an opiate blocker and is not an opiate. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 monthly.
