Naltrexone is another medication taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications aforementioned it is an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. A person has the choice to take this medication as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse.
