Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Equality, IL.

Vivitrol is a medication mainly administered to help prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is used specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release type of the med Naltrexone, that one can get via injection once a month. It isn't habit forming, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone injects Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would normally be activated by alcohol or opioids, so when someone drinks alcohol or takes opioids they essentially can't get high or drunk.

There are particular precautions that need to be taken before someone is administered Vivitrol. First off, a person who with the intent to start Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for a minimum of seven to ten days. This is including people who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given drugs such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been on Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly can be very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for at least 7 days in order to start Vivitrol.

These meds must be used as part of a rehab program in Equality which also includes medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Speak with your doctor or therapist about how pharmacological aids can help you live the drug-free life you want.
