The armed forces currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. By way of TRICARE, military members can receive drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Patterson. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various treatment services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detox are restricted to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers will be allowed to stay in rehab.
