The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and get referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can obtain drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Westmont. This encompasses individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other rehab services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detoxification are limited to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members will be permitted to remain in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly allowed. Additionally, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other treatment services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
