Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an out-patient medical center certified to administer the med, that is taken on a daily basis as a pill or liquid. The cost of the med is around under $200 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based drug, and is a pill often taken one day on, one day off. But different from Methadone that is only be dispensed in well-regulated medical centers, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is around $300.00 monthly for the generic version of the medication. There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a med that reverses the effects of opiates. A person consuming this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken daily, and costs around $450 a month. Naltrexone is another med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it is an opiate blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents a person from experience high feelings from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
