There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, which is a drug which reverses the effects of opiates. Someone taking this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and costs about $450 /month. Naltrexone is an additional drug used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it is an opiate blocker and isn't an opiate. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
