Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Cherokee, KS.

One of the outpatient treatment alternatives for clients in Cherokee struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed clinics and doctors are authorized to dispense specific medications to opioid dependent individuals, many that are opioids also and are addiction. With low enough doses however, the user does not experience being high but also doesn't have severe cravings and is not in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication tried for this sole purpose, but there are other options currently to pick from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an outpatient medical center certified to administer the med, which is taken daily in liquid or pill form. The price of the drug is approximately $150 a month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based med, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But different from Methadone that is only be given in highly well-regulated medical centers, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is around $300.00 per month for the generic version of the drug. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, that is a med that reverses the effects of opiates. A person taking this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and is priced around $450 monthly. Naltrexone is another med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it is an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from feeling high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 per month.
