Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers - Lyndon, KS.

One of the outpatient rehabilitation alternatives for individuals in Lyndon struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are certified to give certain meds to opioid addicted clients, many of which are opioid-based also and are addictive. In low enough doses however, the client does not experience high feelings and also does not experience intense cravings and is not in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication administered for this purpose, but there are other choices currently to select from.

Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an outpatient medical center certified to dispense the med, which is taken daily as a pill or liquid. The cost of the med is about $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based med, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone which can only be given in highly structured medical centers, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is about just under $300 monthly for the generic of the med. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, that is a drug that reverses the effects of opioids. An individual taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken daily, and costs about $450 a month. Naltrexone is an additional med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications aforementioned it is an opioid blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
