Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - Sylvan Grove, KS.

Vivitrol is a medication mainly administered to help prevent drug abuse and relapse, and is administered expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release type of the drug Naltrexone, that is available via a monthly injection. It isn't habit forming, and is what is called an antagonist. When someone takes Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be activated by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual drinks or tries to get high on opioids they basically can't get drunk or high.

There are certain safety measures that need to be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, someone who plans to start Vivitrol must have abstained from opioids for a minimum of 7-10 days. This is including clients who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given meds such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly is brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of seven days in order to start Vivitrol.

These meds must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Sylvan Grove that also includes medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk to your therapist or Dr. in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you maintain and build the drug-free life you want.
