Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs - Fort Campbell, KY.

One of the outpatient treatment alternatives for clients in Fort Campbell battling with opioid dependence and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are authorized to dispense specific medications to opioid addicted clients, many of which are opioids also and are addictive. In low enough amounts however, the individual does not feel high but also does not have intense cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug tried for this purpose, but there are a few more choices to choose from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an outpatient clinic licensed to dispense the med, that is taken daily in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is about $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based med, and is a pill often taken every other day. But different from Methadone which is only be given in highly well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is about $300.00 per month for the generic version of the med. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, that is a drug that reverses the effects of opioids. An individual taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and is priced approximately $450 per month. Naltrexone is another med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it's an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. A person has the choice to take this medication as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
