The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and obtain referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can obtain drug and alcohol treatment services in Pine Ridge. This encompasses individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other treatment services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detox are restricted to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers are allowed to remain in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is typically permitted.
