The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and get referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can receive drug and alcohol treatment services in Deridder. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detoxification are restricted to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers are allowed to remain in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually allowed. Additionally, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis.
