The armed forces currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can pick a primary care physician and obtain referrals to health care services that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can acquire substance abuse rehabilitation services in Hammond. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other rehabilitation services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are limited to no more than 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members will be permitted to stay in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually allowed. Additionally, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which take place on an outpatient basis.
