Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers - Dover, MA.

One of the out-patient treatment alternatives for clients in Dover who are battling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed clinics and doctors are certified to dispense specific medications to opioid dependent people, many that are opioids themselves and are habit forming. With low enough amounts however, the user doesn't feel high but also doesn't experience acute cravings and is not in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication used for this reason, but there are other options to select from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an outpatient clinic certified to administer the drug, that is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is approximately $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based drug, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone that can only be given in highly structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is approximately $300 /month for the generic version of the med. There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, that is a drug which blocks the effects of opioids. A person taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken daily, and is priced around $450 monthly. Naltrexone is an additional medication used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it is an opiate blocker and is not an opiate. A person has the choice to take this drug as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from getting high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
