Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs - Church Hill, MD.

One of the out-patient rehab alternatives for people in Church Hill struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed centers and doctors are authorized to administer certain meds to opioid addicted clients, many that are opioid-based themselves and are addiction. With low amounts however, the client does not experience high feelings but also doesn't experience severe cravings and is not in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication administered for this purpose, but there are other choices currently to select from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an outpatient medical center certified to dispense the med, that is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The cost of the drug is approximately $150 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based med, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone which is only be given in highly structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is approximately $300 monthly for the generic version of the med. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, that is a drug that blocks the effects of opioids. Someone taking this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken daily, and costs about $450 monthly. Naltrexone is another drug taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it's an opiate blocker and isn't an opioid. A person has the choice to take this drug as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from experience being high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 /month.
