Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers - Gambrills, MD.

One of the outpatient rehab options for people in Gambrills battling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Some facilities and doctors are authorized to give specific medications to opioid dependent individuals, many that are opioid-based themselves and are addiction. In low doses however, the user does not experience being high but also doesn't have severe cravings and isn't experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication used for this purpose, but there are a few more options to select from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an outpatient clinic licensed to dispense the med, which is taken daily as a pill or liquid. The price of the drug is about $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opioid-based drug, and is a pill often taken every other day. But different from Methadone that can only be administered in highly well-regulated medical centers, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is around three hundred dollars a month for the generic of the med. There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a med which blocks the effects of opioids. A person taking this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and costs about $450 per month. Naltrexone is an additional medication used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it is an opiate blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents a person from experience being high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
