Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - Midland, MD.

One of the outpatient rehab alternatives for people in Midland battling with opioid dependence and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed centers and doctors are certified to give specific medications to opioid dependent clients, many that are opioid-based also and are habit forming. In low enough amounts however, the client doesn't experience high feelings and also doesn't experience acute cravings and isn't experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug tried for this purpose, but there are other options currently to pick from.

Methadone is an opioid and is meant to be taken at an outpatient medical center certified to administer the drug, that is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The price of the drug is about $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based med, and is a pill often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone that can only be dispensed in structured medical centers, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is around three hundred dollars a month for the generic version of the medication. There is also a type of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a drug which blocks the effects of opioids. An individual consuming this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and costs approximately $450 monthly. Naltrexone is another med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned it is an opioid blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from getting high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 /month.
