Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Secretary, MD.

One of the out-patient rehab alternatives for clients in Secretary battling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed centers and doctors are authorized to give specific meds to opioid addicted individuals, many that are opioids also and are habit forming. With low enough doses however, the client doesn't experience being high but also doesn't experience acute cravings and is not in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication tried for this sole purpose, but there are a few more choices to pick from.

Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an outpatient clinic certified to dispense the drug, that is taken daily in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is about $150 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based drug, and is a pill often taken every other day. But different from Methadone which can only be administered in highly well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is approximately $300 per month for the generic of the drug. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a drug that blocks the effects of opiates. An individual taking this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken daily, and is priced about $450 monthly. Naltrexone is another med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from getting high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
