The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary doctor and get referrals to health care services that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can receive drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Suitland. This encompasses detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other substance abuse recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detoxification are restricted to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers are permitted to remain in rehab.
