The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and obtain referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can acquire substance abuse rehabilitation services in Belfast. This encompasses detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detox are limited to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military members will be allowed to remain in treatment.
