The armed forces currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary care physician and get referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, members of the military can acquire substance abuse rehabilitation services in Alma. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detox are limited to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers are allowed to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually accepted. Additionally, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which take place on an outpatient basis.
