The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can select a primary doctor and obtain referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, members of the military can acquire substance abuse rehabilitation services in Auburn Hills. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other rehab services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detox are limited to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members will be permitted to remain in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually permitted. Additionally, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which occur on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other primary treatment services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
