The armed forces currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can select a primary care physician and obtain referrals to organizations that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can acquire drug and alcohol treatment services in Lake Orion. This encompasses detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other treatment services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are limited to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military members will be permitted to remain in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly accepted.
