Clients Referred from the Court - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Oakland, MI.

Clients referred from the court for substance abuse treatment are typically referred because they are being given a chance to try their hand at rehab in lieu of jail time, other charges, fines, etc. Although this is most common with first time offenders, it can occur at any time such as while the person is already incarcerated. There are various types of programs that criminal justice clients may be referred to, and this depends on what is local to Oakland and the type of drug or alcohol the person requires treatment for.

There are treatment programs that work primarily with the criminal justice court system to administer to this specific group of clientele, and are usually state or federally funded or are available at little or no cost to the client. There are also private drug treatment centers that can be accepted by the court if there is a specific type of rehab that the client needs or desires that a state-funded program can't fulfill. The client's attorney can request such alternatives to the judge for permission. There are even drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers that operate out of the jails and prisons themselves, in which case clients are often in a better position for reduced sentences or other leniencies when participating in drug rehab services while serving their sentence for a drug offense or a DUI/DWI.
