Medicare is a federal program which helps pay for medical healthcare services for individuals living in the U.S. who are either disabled or 65 years of age or older. Medicare consists of different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering various forms of treatment.
Part A (Insurance for Hospital Stays) - Medicare Part A covers inpatient substance rehabilitation, and up to 60 days in rehab without a co-pay but policy holders will be required to pay a deductible. Medicare only pays for 190 days of inpatient care total, this applies to the person's lifetime.
Part B (Medical Insurance) ? Medicare Part B pays up to 80% of the costs for outpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation. This includes outpatient services, therapy/counseling, treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders such as anxiety disorders or depression and drugs dispensed by clinics. It also covers professional interventions.
Part C (Medicare-approved Private Insurance) Medicare Part D is an alternative for clients who want supplemental coverage aside from what the other parts of Medicare have to offer. Individuals who have Part C can have more options available to them, but out-of-pocket costs and coverage is different and may be more expensive.
Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D covers drug and alcohol addiction medications. Including medications associated with treating withdrawal symptoms during detoxification as well as medications used for maintenance therapy such as methadone or buprenorphine.
